Rep. Biazon wants transport safety board created

MANILA, Philippines – Muntinlupa Representative Rodolfo Biazon is once again proposing for the creation of a national transportation safety board, following the plane crash which has prompted search and rescue operations for Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and two others.

He told Radyo Inquirer 990AM in an interview on Monday that the successive plane crashes involving Aviatour Air prompted the need for an investigating body on transport issues whose members will have no conflicts of interest. He observed that it was not acceptable for such a panel to be composed of transportation firms and urged for the passage of House Bill 866.

Biazon said that he filed a similar bill before at the Senate and was once again pushing for HB 866 at the House of Representatives after learning that the plane crash, which involved the Department of the Interior and Local Government chief was not the first accident involving its light aircraft.

Another Aviatour Air plane was involved in a crash in Camiguin back in March this year. The accident killed both the pilot and its passenger, a Norwegian tourist.

“I filed [HB 866] again, this time in Congress. Sana maipasa na [at magkaroon ng] national transport safety board composed of independent individuals na walang conflict of interest,” said Biazon.
