Bill for solar roofs pushed

MANILA—A party-list lawmaker has urged Congress to fast-track the passage of a bill that would push for the installation of solar facilities on one million roofs, as a way to solve the incessant power rate hikes in the country.

During the Philippine Solar Summit on Friday, Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño  in  a statement stressed that House Bill 5405 or the proposed One Million Solar Roofs Act will provide incentives and financing facilities to ordinary electricity consumers like residences, offices and small- to medium-sized business establishments that want to put up their own solar power systems.

The bill allows one to take out loans from financial institutions like the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG fund) to but solar panels and pay the amount from the ensuing savings in their electricity bills, he said  /INQUIRER
