BuCor chief on leave; de Lima to oversee NBP
MANILA, Philippines – Bureau of Corrections Director Gaudencio Pangilinan went on indefinite leave pending an investigation on the disappearance of high-profile inmate Rolito Go at New Bilibid Prison on Wednesday.
In a press statement by Secretary Edwin Lacierda Thursday, he said that Pangilinan offered to go on leave which President Benigno Aquino III has accepted.
Meanwhile, the New Bilibid Prison will be under the supervision of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, until the appointment of an officer-in-charge.
“President Aquino has ordered an in-depth, multi-agency investigation into the circumstances surrounding Rolito Go’s disappearance and eventual reappearance,” he added.
Go was discovered missing Wednesday but surfaced in the night, claiming he was freed by his abductors.
