Low pressure area develops into tropical depression

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services on Sunday said the active low pressure area east of northern Luzon has developed into a tropical depression and was named “Helen”

In its 4 p.m., Pagasa said the center of Helen was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 750 km East of Casiguran, Aurora (16.7°N 130.2°E) with maximum winds of 55 kph near the center. It is forecast to move west northwest at 11 kph.

It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center, the agency added.

On Monday afternoon, Pagasa said Helen would be 550 km east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora and on Tuesday afternoon it is plotted to be 410 km Northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.

On Wednesday afternoon, the tropical depression is forecast 300 km north of Aparri, Cagayan.
