Dave Penalosa, Eden Sonsona to face Thai boxers in Mandaluyong
FORMER two-division world champion and now boxing promoter Gerry Peñalosa will showcase his nephew and up and coming superbantamweight prospect Dave Peñalosa (4W-0L, 2 KOs) on Aug. 18 in a televised fight card to be held in Mandaluyong City.
The young Penalosa will battle Thai banger Yodpichai Sithsaithong (7W-5L, 3 KOs) in a six rounder.
The 21 year-old Peñalosa turned pro last year and is the son of former two division world champ Dodie Boy Peñalosa.
Together with brother Dodie Jr., they have started to make waves as pros. Last April, Dave knocked out Jumar Torreon in the second round in a fight held in Mandaue City. Three months later he beat Jonathan Ligas by six round unanimous decision. Against Sithsaithong, Dave will be fighting a foreign opponent for the first time.
Also to be featured in this card is Eden Sonsona (28W-6L, 8 KOs) who will fight Petchnamnung Sithsaithong (9W-2L, 7 KOs) in a ten rounder. Sonsona has won twice since losing to Jonathan Oquendo in Puerto Rico two years ago. The Gensan southpaw known as “Mr. Showboat’’ beat Eman Labanza and Godwin Tubigon in fights held in Cebu.
This boxing event by GerryPens Promotions will be aired live on AKTV13, Aug. 18 at 9-11 p.m. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
