Water levels rise as rain falls anew

MANILA, Philippines—Water levels rose drastically in several Metro Manila rivers and reached critical levels once more as rains poured Friday night despite being dry throughout the day.

Water level at the San Mateo water level monitoring station reached 20.45 meters, its critical level is 18.30 meters, according to the data from the Flood Forecasting and Warning System (FFWS) of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The Tumana Bridge monitoring station along the Marikina river recorded 19.93 meters of water as of 10:40pm, the critical level there is 18.30 meters. Two hours earlier, the water level was 19.44 meters.

Sto. Niño monitoring station recorded 17.42 meters, its critical level is 16.00 meters. The water level two hours earlier was 16.92 meters.

Marcos highway monitoring station recorded 16.15 meters, almost two meters above the critical level of 14.90 meters. Its water level two hours earlier was 15.75 meters.

Rosario JS recorded 14.38 meters, its critical level is 13.80 meters. It earlier recorded 14.22 meters water level.

Pagasa’s FFWS is an automated system that obtains data from the monitoring station every 10 minutes.
