2 SCAVENGERS DIE IN TALISAY MISHAP
TWO scavengers were killed and three others were wounded after the garbage truck they rode fell on its side in barangay Tapul, Talisay City, southern Cebu.
The truck was headed for a landfill when the accident occurred around 1 p.m. yesterday.
Scavengers hitched a ride and rode on top of the truck.
The truck was going downhill when the brakes malfunctioned, said the driver, Dante Olid, 44.
Jerome Miyaso was declared dead at the Talisay City District Hospital where they were brought after the accident.

FARMER STABBED TO DEATH
A 26-YEAR-OLD farmer was stabbed to death by his neighbor in barangay Manlapay, Dalaguete town, southern Cebu.
Carlos Salariana succumbed to stab wounds in the chest and back.
The 46-year-old suspect, Odon “Budok” Carulasan, a coal miner, surrendered to the police yesterday morning.
Police said a personal grudge was the motive in the attack.
Carulasan had accused Salariana of having an affair with his sister-in-law.
Carulasan warned Salariana to stay away from the woman but the victim allegedly ignored the warning, said police.
Around 8 p.m. last Tuesday, Salariana was walking along a road in sitio Cayapokyapokan with friends when Carulasan called him.
Police said Carulasan was heard telling Salariana “magdaug jud ta diri” before stabbing the victim in the chest.
Salariana ran but Carulasan chased him.
Carulasan cornered Salariana and finished him off by repeatedly stabbing him in the back.

CARMEN BANK BURGLARIZED
AT least P9,000 cash was stolen from a bank in barangay Dawis Norte, Carmen town, northern Cebu.
Based on initial police investigation, there were no signs of forcible entry in Banco de Katipunan Foundation Inc.
Anthony Zembrano Arbutante, 26, the bank’s account officer, and Jake Manungas Cardova, 23, loan officer, reported the theft to the Carmen police station around 7 a.m. yesterday.
Police said P9,280 cash were kept in the drawers of the bank workers were missing.

WOMAN SHOT DEAD IN CARCAR
A 18-YEAR-OLD woman was shot dead by a motorcycle-riding assailant in barangay Poblacion 1, Carcar City, southern Cebu.
Police are still investigating the motive in the killing of Mysa Plarisan.
Before the shooting, Plarisan argued with an unidentified man inside a videoke bar on Dr. Ceasar Street where the woman had a drinking session with two friends around 2 a.m. yesterday.
Plarisan stepped out of the videoke bar for a while.
While outside, a motorcycle arrived. The backrider then drew a gun and shot the woman in the chest and left arm.
The assailants drove off after the attack.
Plarisan was brought to the Carcar Provincial Hospital where she was declared dead by the attending physician./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
