Arellano shocks Perpetual Help

/ 12:21 PM August 07, 2012

THE ARELLANO University Chiefs brought some sunlight into what has been a gloomy season so far as they upset the Perpetual Help Altas, 63-54, in the 88th NCAA men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.

Unheralded rookie point guard John Pinto stole the show as he played a huge part in the Chiefs’ breakaway in the fourth.

The little-used backup also piled up massive numbers with 15 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

The Altas had the lead for the last time at 50-49 after a basket by Nick Omorogbe.

However, Pinto entered the game and energized his team with his court-vision and frenetic hustle. He passed assists to Nichole Bangga and Prince Caperal and had a floater of his own in a 12-2 run that put the Chiefs on top, 61-52 with 1:25 left./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
