MANILA, Philippines—Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma on Thursday said that President Benigno Aquino is backing the passage of the controversial Freedom of Information Bill.

When asked during the hearing on the PCOO’s proposed budget for next year, Coloma assured that Aquino supported the enactment of the FOI Bill.

Answering the question by Akbayan Representative Walden Bello, he said the version of the FOI Bill being referred to was the proposed substitute bill filed by Deputy Speaker Lorenzo Tanada III.
