Gener leaves over 30 dead, P240M of damaged crops, roads–NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — The combined effects of the southwest monsoon and typhoon “Gener” has claimed 37 lives as of posting time and destroyed P240 million worth of infrastructure and crops, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday.

The new fatalities, who all died from drowning, were: Angela Gregrorio, Patricia Gregorio and Elisa Mae Dolfino from Valenzuela City; Reynaldi Frio, Arlene Paz from Sto Domingo, Ilocos Sur; Crisanto Rapusol from Pilar, Winnie Capiles from Mariveles, Bataan; Cj Carlos from Obando, Bulacan; Angel Ignacio from Masantol, Pampanga; and Hazel Arpullos from San Jose Occidental Mindoro.

Declared missing were Jerry Turo and John Regueros from Bugulas, Benguet; Venice Sunopen from Ilocos Sur; and Alfred Gumban from Pavia, Iloilo. All of them were suspected to have drowned.

Gener also affected over half a million persons in 32 provinces from the regions of Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Cordillera and the National Capital Region. There were 111,097 families or 519,665 persons affected by Gener, the NDRRMC said.

Those served inside and outside evacuation centers were 50,681 families or 231,384 persons, it said.

As of Thursday, 30 roads and bridges were affected in several areas, it said.

An amount of P5million was provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, local government units and non -government organizations as relief assistance in NCR, Ilocos, Cagayan, Cental Luzon, Mimaropa, CalabarOn, Bicol, Western Visayas, Northern Mindanao and CAR, it said.

 
Gener also damaged 4,304 houses, 776 of which were completely damaged.
Gener was downgraded to a tropical storm before exiting Philippine territory.
