No damage reported in Virac 4.7 quake

VIRAC, Catanduanes—A 4.7 magnitude earthquake shook the island of Catanduanes early on Thursday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 12:36 a.m. and originated from the Philippine Sea, about 40 kilometers northeast of Baras town at a depth of 112 kilometers.

It was felt at Intensity 3 in Viga, Intensity 2 in the capital town of Virac, and Intensity 1 in Legazpi City on the mainland province of Albay, said a Phivolcs bulletin released on Thursday.

There were no reports of damage as it was largely a weak temblor, said Robert Monterola, information officer of the Catanduanes Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Monterola, who lives in Virac, said he was awakened by the slight shaking which lasted for several seconds.

Alejandro Erisare, also from Virac, said he had just gone to the bathroom when the earthquake started.
