Shooting rampage leaves man dead, 5 others wounded
A Japanese man who had lost his wife and then all his money went on a shooting rampage in Marikina City and San Mateo, Rizal, on Sunday night, targeting people who had refused to pay back the money they owed him.
The Marikina police eventually caught up with Kunimitsu Matsuo, 56, in his friend’s house in Antipolo City Monday but not before he killed his brother-in-law and wounded five other people, including a 6-year-old child.
Senior Superintendent Gabriel Lopez, Marikina police chief, said that Matsuo was charged with murder and frustrated murder charges in the city prosecutor’s office.
Based on police reports, Matsuo was married to a Filipino woman who had left him shortly before their taxi company went bankrupt. To compound his problems, his brother-in-law, Salvador Panim, 30; and his wife’s other relatives had refused to pay their debts to him.
“It was an act of an angry man,” Lopez said.
At around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Matsuo went to Panim’s house in Marikina City and shot him in the chest, killing him. He went next to the house of Orlando Corpuz, 56; and Evangeline Silot, 56; who also owed him money and shot them, including Silot’s 6-year-old grandchild. They were later treated in a hospital.
Not content, Matsuo went to San Mateo, Rizal, where he confronted his former employee, taxi driver Ronald Abuyog and wife, Nimfa, over their debt to him. He also shot and wounded the couple and then fled to his friend’s house in Antipolo City.
