FARMER KILLED BY NEIGHBORS

A 43-YEAR-OLD farmer was hacked dead by his neighbors in barangay Dumlog, Toledo City, southern Cebu yesterday.

Simeon Edolovereo died on the spot due to multiple hack wounds in the body.

The suspects Benigno Caburnay, 44, and his two sons, aged 16 and 14, were arrested by police after the attack.

Caburnay’s two sons were turned over to social workers.

Police said personal grudges could be the motive in the attack.

Police said that last Thursday afternoon, Caburnay’s wife Merlyn and Edolovereo’s live-in partner Bernadete Quinada had a fight.

SPO3 Henry Acosta of the Toledo City police said some neighbors told them that  Quinada spread rumors that Merlyn was having an affair with another man.

At 6 a.m. yesterday, Caburnay went to Edolovereo’s house.

The victim was about to pasture his goat when Caburnay and his two sons took turns in attacking him.

RETIRED TEACHER LOSES CASH IN MALL

A RETIRED public school teacher from Bohol province lost at least P15, 000 cash while dining at a fast food chain inside a mall in Mandaue City.

Catalina Ricafort, 65, said the money was kept in a shoulder bag which she placed behind her while eating inside the Pacific Mall past noon yesterday.

Ricafort and her 65-year-old husband were at the mall processing their passports at the Department of Foreign Affairs desk located insidethe mall.

COFFEE SHOP OWNER ROBBED

A BUSINESSWOMAN reported to the police that she was robbed at gunpoint in barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.

Maribeth Lobostro, who owns a coffee shop in barangay Basak, said the robber took her Yamaha Novo motorcycle as well as her P12,000 cash and a cell phone worth P10,000.

Lobostro, a resident of BF Homes in sitio Sudtonggan, said she was about to close her coffee shop at 11:30 p.m. last Tuesday when a man appeared from behind and poked a gun at her.

The victim said the man demanded that she surrender her bag.   Lobostro said she refused to give her bag but the robber hit her in the head with the handgun.

After taking the  bag, the robber commandeered the victim’s motorcycle and drove off.

LABORER DIES IN SRP ROAD MISHAP

A 29-YEAR-OLD construction worker was killed after a dump truck ran over him in South Road Properties in barangay Tangke, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Ryan Alegado was driving home on his bicycle when the accident occurred at 4:20 p.m. yesterday.

Police said Alegado was on the gutter of the road when a truck tailing him hit him.

The truck driver, Romulo Yares, 62, said he lost control of the wheel that caused the truck to swerve to the right side of the road and climbed into the gutter.

It was raining when the accident occurred.  Yares blamed the slippery condition of the road as the cause of the accident./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC
