Pinoy Lopez falters in his WBC title bid

REIGNING WBC silver superflyweight champion Sylvester Lopez from Zamboanga lost in his world title bid against WBC superflyweight champion Yota Sato by unanimous decision yesterday at the Bunka Gym in Yokohama, Japan.

Fight judge Lou Moret of the U.S scored it 119-109, Chan-Soo Kim of Korea scored it 116-113  while David Bilocerkowec of Canada had it at 118-110 all in favor of Sato.

The 24-year-old Lopez suffered his fourth career loss with 19 wins (15 KOs) and one draw.

The 28-year-old Sato defended his title successfully for the first time and improved to 25W-2L-1D, 12 KOs.

Sato won the title last March by unanimous decision over Suriyan Sor Rungvisai of Thailand.  /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre
