MANILA, Philippines — Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon has warned the public against individuals posing as personnel of the DPWH amid the rise in cases of false representation of the agency authorized for access to projects and funds.

This warning came after the DPWH on Friday said that an individual went to the agency’s central office in Manila for their supposed oath-taking as a “regional director” based on a document received online.

In a Facebook post, the DPWH showed a scanned “appointment” document of a certain engineer, whose identity was not disclosed. The document showed a stamp of the agency, Civil Service Commission, and Dizon’s signature.

“We are coordinating with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), and the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to catch these rogue fellow citizens of ours,” Dizon said.

The agency then encouraged the public to report this kind of modus to the DPWH hotline at 165-02, or any DPWH official social media accounts.

The PNP-CIDG recently arrested two female individuals for allegedly pretending to be DPWH personnel in Davao City. The CIDG said that the two suspects, with aliases of “Chel” and “Cham” introduced themselves as officers and employees of the DPWH Central Office.

The CIDG noted that the DPWH Central Office certified that the two suspects were not employees of the agency. They may face charges of usurpation of authority as well as falsification by private individuals and use of falsified documents. /mr
