Boy wounded in accidental firearm discharge in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Philippines — A 13-year-old boy was wounded after a security guard’s firearm accidentally discharged in Candelaria, Quezon, on Saturday, June 6, police said.
In a report released Sunday, the Calabarzon Police Regional Office (PRO 4A) said the incident occurred at around noon when the security guard, identified only as Leonardo, 43, noticed that his service firearm, a 9-mm pistol, was cocked.
While attempting to unload the weapon, it accidentally fired, sending a bullet into the ground.

Police said a bullet fragment or debris dislodged by the impact ricocheted and struck the boy in the face, causing injuries.
The victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The security guard later voluntarily surrendered to authorities and turned over his service firearm.
Police started an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. /atm
