PNP-HPG rider injured in SLEx hit-and-run; Napolcom urges swift probe

MANILA, Philippines — A hit-and-run incident involving a Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) rider and an unidentified sport utility vehicle (SUV) along the South Luzon Expressway on Saturday prompted the National Police Commission (Napolcom) to call for a swift investigation.
Napolcom said that based on video footage circulating online, the SUV appears to have hit the police rider and then fled the scene without stopping.
In a statement on Sunday, Napolcom called it “an alarming act that endangered not only a law enforcement officer performing his duty, but also the safety of other motorists on the road.”

“We expect the PNP-HPG to move swiftly in identifying the driver and pursuing all appropriate charges,” said Napolcom Commissioner Rafael Vicente Calinisan.
He said all available evidence, including CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, and witness testimonies, must be thoroughly examined to establish the facts and ensure accountability.
“Reckless imprudence does not require intent. It is enough that there was a failure to exercise due diligence and proper care in driving,” said Calinisan.
The PNP-HPG said, “Investigation is ongoing in coordination with SLEX Management to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the incident.”
They said the PNP officer is now in stable condition after sustaining minor injuries.
“No one has the right to use speed, anger, or negligence to escape responsibility or endanger the lives of others,” said Calinisan.Calinisan said they have consistently pushed for accountability among police officers who break the law, while remaining equally firm in protecting those harmed in the line of duty while properly carrying out their responsibilities. /das /atm
