Seven nonworkers among 28 dead in Angeles building collapse — BFP

ANGELES CITY, Philippines — Seven of the 28 people who died in the collapse of a nine-story building under construction in Barangay Balibago here were not construction workers, according to updated casualty data released by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on Sunday, June 7.
The latest figures raise more questions about who was inside the structure when it collapsed on May 24, as several of the victims recovered from the rubble were not included in the original list of missing workers provided to rescue teams.
The BFP, which is overseeing the search, rescue, retrieval, and clearing operations at the site, said 26 of the 28 fatalities have already been identified, while efforts are ongoing to establish the identities of the remaining two victims.

Data from the agency showed that 14 of the identified victims had been claimed by their families. These include 10 construction workers, one Malaysian national, and two nonworkers. Twelve victims have yet to be claimed.
The death toll rose to 28 on Thursday night after responders recovered another body from the debris, ending more than two days without any recoveries.
Search, retrieval, and clearing operations continue at the site as authorities work to identify all victims and determine who may have been inside the building when it gave way. /das /atm
