OLONGAPO CITY — After more than two days without any recoveries, responders on Saturday night extricated another individual from the rubble of the collapsed nine-story building in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City raising the death toll to 28.

The latest victim was recovered at 9:56 p.m., according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Central Luzon, overseeing the search, rescue, retrieval, and clearing operations at the site.

The recovery ended a lull that began after the last victim was retrieved at 7:10 p.m. on June 3.

Since then, no additional human remains had been found but a live chicken that may have been responsible for several life detector activations recovered from the debris on Thursday (June 4).

The chicken was retrieved at around 8:58 a.m. during ongoing operations and is believed to have belonged to one of the construction workers affected by the May 24 collapse.

Search, retrieval, and clearing operations remain ongoing as responders work through the remaining rubble of concrete and steel. /jpv
