Zubiri: Blocking of Senate hearings ‘figment of their imagination’

MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri on Tuesday dismissed Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano’s claim that the minority was planning to block Senate committee hearings, describing it as a “figment of their imagination.”

Cayetano, who failed to preside over a plenary session for the second consecutive day, accused the minority of planning to remove Senate committees from majority senators.

“These are just figments of their imagination. We are not obstructing the Senate process or its agenda,” Zubiri said in Filipino.

Sen. Bam Aquino backed Zubiri, saying, “We are not blocking the Blue Ribbon Committee.”

Despite having no minority senators among its members, the Senate blue ribbon committee is scheduled to continue its probe into flood-control anomalies on Thursday.

Only Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto III is an ex officio member of the panel headed by Sen. Pia Cayetano. /mcm
