The Manila Hotel is celebrating its 100th year this month. Inaugurated and officially opened on July 4, 1912, it was remodeled in 1976 and reopened in 1977. Once official residence and headquarters to Gen. Douglas MacArthur during his tenure as military advisor to the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines, the hotel also played host to Vice President Richard Nixon, Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Lyndon B. Johnson, the Beatles and Ernest Hemingway. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
