House reso commends BINI performance at Coachella 2026

MANILA, Philippines — A resolution that seeks to recognize and congratulate Pinoy-pop girl group BINI after their performance at Coachella 2026 — the first Filipino pop group to perform in the United States-based arts and music festival — has been filed before the House of Representatives.
In a statement on Monday, Negros Occidental Rep. Javi Benitez said he has filed House Resolution (HR) No. 930 to commend BINI for representing Filipino talent at the world stage — bringing people from across the world closer to original Pilipino music (OPM).
“Their performances weren’t just a win for the fans, it was a massive milestone for our creative industries and a masterclass in bringing OPM to the global stage,” Benitez, chairperson of the House special committee on creative industries, said.
Under HR No. 930, Benitez said that this performance contributes to the “broader promotion and global recognition” which will strengthen the standing of the “Philippine cultural presence and expanding the international reach and influence of Filipino music and creative industries.”
“The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an internationally renowned annual music and arts festival widely regarded as one of the most influential cultural events in the world, featuring top global artists and attracting hundreds of thousands of attendees, industry leaders, and international media attention,” Benitez said in HR No. 930.
“Participation in the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is considered a major milestone for artists, as it signifies global recognition, cultural influence, and entry into the international mainstream music industry […] on April 10 and 17, 2026, BINI made history as the first-ever Filipino group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California,” he added.
BINI’s success, Benitez said, is a source of national pride as several top songs like “Pantropiko,” “Karera,” and “Salamin, Salamin” — all of which featured Filipino lyrics — were performed before a global audience.
“Such achievement highlights the rising global presence of Filipino artists and showcases the richness, creativity, and competitiveness of Filipino talent on the world stage,” he said.
“The success of BINI at Coachella 2026 serves as a source of immense national pride, proving that Filipino musicality and artistry can compete and excel at the highest levels of the international entertainment industry, thus serving as an inspiration to aspiring artists and creatives across the country,” he added.
The group, composed of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna and Sheena also introduced themselves and greeted the cheering audience using their native languages — Filipino, Cebuano, Bicolano and Ilocano.

To help the music industry grow and provide support for more performers that would be following in BINI’s footsteps, Benitez said that they are considering and planning to include music as a commercial industry under the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act (PCIDA) through a proposed amendment. /gsg
