Jack Argota files counter-affidavit at DOJ over cyber libel

MANILA, Philippines — Vlogger Jack Argota on Tuesday appeared before the Department of Justice (DOJ) to submit his response to cyber libel and unlawful publication complaints filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against him.

The complaints stem from Argota’s alleged dissemination of fake medical records of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“I filed a counter-affidavit,” Argota said in Filipino during an ambush interview.

When asked about its contents, he replied in Filipino, “Many. It’s all there. I just don’t want to say because I might get sued again.”

Last Feb. 24, the NBI filed cyber libel and unlawful publication complaints against Argota.

Earlier, Argota explained that he posted Marcos’ fake medical records for social media engagement and “to keep up with the trend.”

He said he obtained the record from social media pages, including those of Marcos’ alleged vloggers.

Argota admitted that after enhancing the circulating document using ChatGPT, he noticed it showed the wrong age and birthday for Marcos.

He also said he did not know that it was fake. /mcm
