Motor taxi driver stabbed dead in Taguig; PNP wants stronger TNVS ties

MANILA, Philippines — A motorcycle taxi driver was stabbed to death in Taguig City, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP), prompting the law enforcement agency’s chief to consider stronger partnerships with transport network vehicle services (TNVS) for security.
In a statement on Tuesday, the PNP said the victim was seen on security footage calling for help in the early hours of March 11 in Barangay Calzada-Tipas after being stabbed in the chest.
The victim was attacked by the person who made the booking, the agency detailed.

Police investigators identified two of the suspects’ accomplices and a minor connected to him, all three of whom were since taken into police custody over the killing, the PNP noted.
The two accomplices of legal age now face robbery with homicide charges, while the police are conducting follow-up operations to locate the primary suspect, believed to be the leader of a criminal gang behind motorcycle thefts, the police added.
“As one of the important economy movers of the country, [PNP Chief] Police Gen. [Jose Melencio] Nartatez [Jr.] recognized the need to strengthen the protection of TNVS partners due to the risk they face every day that comes with the nature of their job,” the top cop’s office said in a statement.
“The PNP… is also coordinating with TNVS platforms in coming up with measures to flag suspicious bookings and provide safety protocols to their drivers,” it added. /mr
