MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies are expected in Luzon on Sunday due to the effects of the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” and the easterlies, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In its 5 a.m. advisory, Pagasa weather specialist Veronica Torres bared the areas affected by the two weather systems.
“The northeast monsoon or amihan affects northern and central Luzon, and easterlies from the Pacific Ocean affect the rest of our country,” Torres said.
In particular, the monsoon is forecast to bring rains in Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Kalinga and Aurora, as well as light rains in Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region.
Additionally, the monsoon is also expected to carry isolated light rains to Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Occidental Mindoro, the rest of Central Luzon and the rest of Calabarzon, according to Pagasa.

Meanwhile, the easterlies may bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands, and isolated rain showers to the rest of the country.
Pagasa said, as of 4 a.m., it is monitoring a low-pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but it has a low chance of affecting the country.
“This low-pressure area has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone and also has a low chance of entering our Philippine Area of Responsibility. It will not have a direct impact on any part of the country,” also said.
