TS Ada: Signal No. 2 stays over 3 Luzon areas

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 remained hoisted over three areas in Luzon as Tropical Storm Ada moved north-northwestward over the coastal waters of Catanduanes late Saturday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the center of Ada was last located over the coastal waters of Pandan, Catanduanes as of 4 p.m.

Ada maintained its strength as it was still carrying a maximum wind speed of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, gustiness of up to 105 kph, while it was moving north-northwestward at 10 kph.

The following areas in Luzon were still under TCWS No. 2, where wind speeds range from 62 to 88 kph with potential minor to moderate threat to life and property. 

Luzon

  • Eastern portion of Camarines Norte (Vinzons, San Lorenzo Ruiz, San Vicente, Talisay, Basud, Mercedes, Daet, Paracale)
  • Eastern and central portions of Camarines Sur (Siruma, Tinambac, Ocampo, Goa, Lagonoy, Milaor, Nabua, Buhi, Caramoan, Baao, Cabusao, Bato, Camaligan, Pili, Sipocot, Tigaon, Pamplona, Garchitorena, Iriga City, San Fernando, Magarao, Minalabac, Balatan, Libmanan, Naga City, Calabanga, Bombon, Bula, Canaman, Pasacao, Sagnay, San Jose, Presentacion, Gainza, Lupi)
  • Catanduanes

Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 was raised over these areas in Luzon and Visayas, with wind speeds ranging from 39 to 61 kph, bringing minimal to minor threat to life and property.

Pagasa also said that the periphery of Ada and the northeast monsoon will bring strong to gale-force gusts over these areas:

Aside from this, Pagasa warned of minimal to moderate risk of storm surge with peak heights up to two meters within the next 48 hours over the low-lying or exposed coastal communities of Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran. 

Meanwhile, Pagasa said that Ada is forecast to move generally northwestward this Saturday before slowly moving northward to northeastward on Sunday. The agency added that from Sunday onwards, Ada is expected “to move slowly in a looping pattern” over the sea east of Southern Luzon. 

Pagasa also noted that landfall over Catanduanes is possible in a further westward shift in the forecast track, however, it added that changes in forecast track are not ruled out. /das
