Streaking Powerade shoots for semis seat vs Air21 today

POWERADE is still unbeaten since bringing in hardworking import Omar Sneed and the Tigers would like to stay that way as they look to formalize their entry to semifinal round against the Air21 Express in today’s main game of the 37th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Tigers started the tournament losing their first two games that prompted the team to send their highly touted import Rashad McCants home.

The Tigers made a big turnaround when they brought in Sneed, who powered Powerade to four straight victories, allowing the Tigers to inch closer to a semis berth.

With a 4-2 (win-loss) slate, Powerade is currently ranked third in the team standings, trailing the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the B-Meg Llamados.

Rain or Shine and B-Meg are already assured of semis spots with their 6-1 and 5-2 records, respectively.

Powerade could enjoy a big break if Air21 plays without Ogie Menor, who was ejected in the Express’ 77-106 loss to the Meralco Bolts last Wednesday for committing a flagrant foul penalty 2 on Meralco import Mario West.

That blowout loss was the Express’ fifth loss in six games.

Menor was asked to appear before commissioner Chito Salud yesterday.

Should he escape suspension, Menor will take an herculean task of defending Powerade’s top local Gary David.

David scored 16 points in Powerade’s 86-83 win over the Barangay Ginebra Kings last week. The 16-point output ended David’s streak of scoring at least 20 points. The streak ended at 19, tying the record made by Danny Seigle in the 2006 Philippine Cup.

In the opening game, the Barangay Ginebra Kings look to improve their chances of earning a semis berth against the eliminated Alaska Aces.
