THE Capitol will build a total of 37 public toilets for visitors in 37 municipalities in the province.

Provincial engineer Eulogio Pelayre told Cebu Daily News that the project is part of efforts to improve the Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo tourism program of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

The program takes busloads of tourists on a cultural, historical and ecological tour of the towns in Cebu province.

Twenty municipalities in the south and 17 in the north will benefit from the project.

Last month, Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale said the tourism council planned to put up more toilets along the province’s highways.

Municipal halls and plazas where Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo tourists stop have only two to three toilet cubicles and stand in long queues to use the toilets.

Other restrooms don’t have soap or hand sanitizers that the tourists could use.

Magpale said she suggested to Garcia the improvement of restrooms in the barangay halls of each town since most barangays halls are along the highways.
