Woman trying to smuggle illegal drugs nabbed

CEBU CITY—A woman is now detained at the police station in Tagbilaran City in Bohol after she was caught attempting to smuggle in illegal drugs hidden in her bra inside a jail facility.

Amabel Ragas, 23, a resident of Tagbilaran, will be charged with possession of dangerous drugs in violation of Section 11, Article 2 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act on Monday.

Ragas was about to visit her friend, Romeo Blanco at the Tagbilaran jail in Barangay Cabawan at about 2 p.m. on Thursday when a female guard found four ampules of Nalbin under her bra.

Nalbin is a brand of nalbuphine hydrochloride—a regulated analgesic which is abused by drug dependents.

Senior Police Officer 3 Yolando Bagotchay, police investigator, said Ragas was subjected to body frisk, a standard operating procedure for visitors of inmates.

But Jail Officer Diana Abay-abay found the Nalbin ampules wrapped in a cellophane under her bra.

Bagotchay said Ragas didn’t answer questions during the police investigation. But he said the ampules could have been meant for Blanco, who has been under detention for possession of illegal drugs. Jhunnex Napallacan, Inquirer Visayas
