Death toll in pre-Butchoy weather up to 10, thousands displaced — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — Ten people died  and thousands were displaced in bad weather caused by a shallow low pressure area in Mindanao before tropical storm “Butchoy” entered the country late this week, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday.

Seven of the 10 were from the passenger cargo vessel which sank off El Nido, Palawan late Tuesday, one from Davao due to landslide and two from Soccsksargen due to drowning.

The shallow pressure area has affected 4,626 families or 21,002 persons in Mimaropa, Northern Mindanai, Davao Region and Soccsksargen.

An estimated 19,670 persons were served outside evacuation centers and 1,286 wee inside five others.

Meanwhile, 43 remain missing in Palawan, Soccsksargen and Caraga region, the NDRRMC said.

Also, 334 were rescued in joint efforts by local government, police, military and coast guard.

In Glan, Sarangani, where a state of calamity has been declared,  P1.044 million worth of damages was recorded in crops and livestock.
