Commission on Appointments elects new officers

MANILA, Philippines – The powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) elected on Wednesday its new officers, including Sen. Lito Lapid as the head of the CA panel on finance.
No members of the body objected when the following officers of the CA were nominated:

- Assistant Majority Leader: Sen. Loren Legarda
- Minority Leader: Sen. Joel Villanueva
- Committee on foreign affairs Chairperson Sen. Panfilo Lacson; Vice Chairperson Sen. Lito Lapid
- Committee on national defense Vice Chairperson Sen. Panfilo Lacson
- Committee on Finance Chairperson Sen. Lito Lapid
- Committee on Agriculture Vice Chairperson Sen. Lito Lapid
- Committee on public works and highways Vice Chairperson Sen. Raffy Tulfo
- Committee on energy Chairperson Sen. Jinggoy Estrada
- Committee on rules and resolutions Vice Chairperson JV Ejercito
“The senators named by the Majority Leader are elected to assume their respective chairmanships and vice chairmanships in various standing committees of the CA,” said Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
Sotto currently sits as chairperson of the CA, in line with Article VI, Section 18 of the 1987 Philippine Constitution, which designates the Senate president as the body’s ex officio chair. /gsg
