One dead, over 300 families affected by Mindanao flashfloods
MANILA, Philippines – One person and 351 families were affected by flashfloods brought by heavy rains in parts of Mindanao since Monday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council said Tuesday.
Executive Director Benito Ramos identified the casualty from Pangyan village in Glan, Sarangani as an adult male. He died due to drowning.
Five families from Poblacion village in Kidapawan City in Cotabato were evacuated at a daycare center, it said.
In Sultan Kudarat, 320 were affected in villages of Obial, Sta. Clara, Hinalaan, Himulan and Kalamansig.
The Office of Civil Defense in Region 12 is continuously assisting affected families, it added.
Article continues after this advertisementA shallow low pressure area was seen 100 kilometers south of Mindanao, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration.
Article continues after this advertisementThe weather system will bring mostly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers over Mindanao particularly in Southern Mindanao and Zamboanga provinces, it said.
Waterways most likely to be affected are rivers, streams and tributaries in North Cotabato, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato, the NDRRMC said.
