OVP alerts public on cash aid scam using VP Sara Duterte’s name

MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Thursday warned the public against a fake message circulating online that uses Vice President Sara Duterte’s name to promise cash assistance in exchange for personal information.
According to the OVP, the circulating message offers up to P20,000 in cash assistance while asking victims to provide their personal information.

“Be vigilant and never give out your personal information without caution!” the OVP said in Filipino in an issued statement.
“Fake messages are circulating that use the name of the Office of the Vice President and Vice President Sara Duterte to solicit personal details in exchange for an alleged P20,000 cash assistance. This is fake news!” it explained in Filipino.
The OVP reminded the public never to answer or click links from similar messages and to trust only reliable sources and verified platforms.
It also called on victims who received the message to report the incident to the authorities. /jpv
