MANILA, Philippines — Nineteen cops were dismissed from the Philippine National Police (PNP) for misconduct between June 2 and July 25, according to the PNP’s Internal Affairs Service (IAS).
Police Inspector General Brigido Dulay said on Wednesday that the dismissals stemmed from nine administrative cases resolved during the period. The highest-ranking officer removed was a police lieutenant colonel.
The resolved cases also led to the suspension of one officer and the demotion of two others, while nine personnel were cleared of charges, Dulay added.
He also reported that 88 administrative cases were under summary hearings, 78 were awaiting formal charges, and 33 were still under evaluation.
The 199 unresolved cases involve a total of 766 police officers, he added.
The police officers were administratively charged for various offenses, many of which involved grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer, although Dulay said specific details on the nature of the cases were not immediately available.
The IAS has yet to provide a breakdown of the ranks of the police officers involved in the cases.

“This is already a challenge and is based on our Chief PNP’s directive for there to be a disciplined police force and to speed up the resolution of administrative cases,” Dulay said./mcm
