Special police unit to probe threat vs Ombudsman
MANILA, Philippines–A special investigation task group to focus on the alleged “threat” against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has been activated, a Southern Police spokesperson said.
Superintendent Jenny Tecson said the group, led by Senior Superintendent Rolando Asuncion, had been created to begin an in-depth probe into the hand grenade left near the house of Morales, adding that this case has been marked as a “top priority.”
As to the motive behind the “scare,” Tecson said that investigators are still digging for clues as she vowed to release any development as soon as it is available.
She said investigators have coordinated with the Philippine National Logistics Support Service in Camp Crame to check if the lot number obtained from the grenade matches any records from the police and military database.
“But initially we have already beefed-up close-in security of Ombudsman Morales not only in her office, but as well in her residence,” Tecson said.
