THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas Baby Lancers remain in contention for the national title after splitting their games over the weekend in the national finals of the Coca Cola PBA Youngstars basketball tournament over at the Treston Gym in Taguig City.

During the opening day, the Baby Lancers of head coach Jaymar Canoy and team owner, Samsam Gullas, massacred the Holy Child School of Davao City, 74-41.

However, the green machine met their match in the reigning NCAA champions San Beda Red Cubs, who won, 86-81, to drop UV to a 1-1 (win-loss) record.

The elimination round will be a single round-robin with the top two teams at the end of it, advancing to the championship game. The rest of the teams competing are Holy Angel University of Pampanga and the Caloocan selection. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
