Revilla votes to convict Corona
MANILA, Philippines – Senator-judge Ramon Revilla Jr. put the first nail on the coffin of conviction for Chief Justice Renato Corona when he became the 16th senator Tuesday to find him “guilty” of violating the Constitution by failing to disclose his Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Networth (SALN).
Revilla’s vote was the required two-thirds vote needed in the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, to convict the chief justice.
“I have heard all the arguments and considered all the pieces of evidence. I heard directly from the honorable chief justice himself. Napakahirap man, alang-alang sa pagkakaisa at paghilom ng ating bayan, I vote guilty.”
