Ex-Cebu judge is new Sandiganbayan presiding justice
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Geraldine Faith Econg as the antigraft court’s new presiding justice.
In an appointment paper dated Jan. 7, the President named Econg to replace Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, who retired on Nov. 9, 2024, when she reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 for members of the judiciary. Cabotaje-Tang was appointed to the post in October 2013 by then-President Benigno Aquino III.
Econg served as chair of the Sandiganbayan’s Second Division when she was first named to the antigraft court on Jan. 20, 2016.
She will retire from the Sandiganbayan on Aug. 6, 2037, when she turns 70 years old. Econg first served as presiding judge of the Minglanilla, Cebu Municipal Trial Court from 2002 to 2004, and the Cebu City Regional Trial Court Branch 9 from 2004 to 2010.
