Wind turbine in Burgos, Ilocos Norte catches fire
BURGOS, Ilocos Norte – A wind turbine in Burgos, Ilocos Norte caught fire Thursday morning, prompting authorities to probe the incident, a first in the history of wind turbines in the province.
Energy Development Corporation’s corporate social responsibility program head Deborah Melchor said in a phone interview that their technical personnel are now investigating the incident that started at the nacelle, a box-like module considered the heart of a wind turbine located on top of the tower and connected to the rotor.
“The fire broke at 11:30 a.m. and we have yet to determine its cause. There is no casualty involved and the wind turbine is away from residential houses,” she said.

Personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine National Police responded to check on the fire incident.
Article continues after this advertisement“We are still waiting for information [on] what caused the fire. For now, they cannot investigate yet as there is still fire at the top,” said Emma Luz Rico, municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer of Burgos town.
