First leg of Congressman Red Durano Tri Series fires off today
WITH all eyes set on Cebu for its staging of the Ironman triathlon later this year, Congressman Red Durano hopes that the participants will be plenty and ready for the prestigious event as the municipality of Carmen hosts the first leg of the Congressman Red Tri Series today at the Seabreeze Resort.
Action starts at 6 a.m.
The first leg will have the sprint, composed of a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5k run. In addition, it will also have the mini-sprint, a 375m swim, a 10k bike and 2.5k run. In addition, a duathlon is also being offered which is a 2.5k run, 20k bike and 2.5k run.
According to Durano, he dabbled in the sport many years ago and is eyeing to make a return sometime in the near future. For now, he is content to help promote the sport and help Cebu triathletes prepare for the August mega-event.
Triathlon Association of the Philippines executive director Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez said that the event will implement a “no helmet, no ride” policy for the safety of the participants. They must also wear clothing for their upper during the bike and the run and bikers are asked to have water with them as there will be no water stations during the bike leg.
Race day registration fee is pegged at P600. The second leg will be on June 3 at the Mangudlong Beach in San Francisco, Camotes, Cebu while the third and final leg will be on June 24 at the Sands Beach Resort in Danao City. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
