Pre-emptive evacuation ordered in Quezon due to heavy rains
LUCENA CITY — Quezon Gov. Angelina Tan ordered on Sunday the pre-emptive evacuation of residents in areas highly susceptible to flooding and landslides in anticipation of heavy to intense rainfall as predicted by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
To ensure the public’s safety, Tan also ordered all local disaster risk reduction management councils to enforce pre-emptive evacuation protocols, especially in areas identified as high risk for flooding, landslides, and other related hazards.
“Early and effective evacuation is vital to ensure the safety and protection of communities and to prevent any untoward incident,” the governor emphasized.
In the capital city of Lucena, the local government suspended classes on Monday in public and private schools from kindergarten to senior high schools due to the bad weather. INQ
