Heavy rainfall expected in Visayas, Mindanao due to ITCZ
MANILA, Philippines — Moderate to heavy rains are expected in some areas in Visayas and Mindanao due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In a heavy rainfall outlook issued at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the state weather bureau said the provinces of Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental will see moderate to heavy rains from Tuesday noon until Thursday noon.
Dinagat Islands in Caraga and Eastern Samar will likewise experience moderate to heavy rains from Thursday noon until Friday noon.
According to Pagasa, areas experiencing moderate to heavy rains will see rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 millimeters during the forecast period.
“Localized flooding is possible mainly in areas that are urbanized, low-lying, or near rivers,” Pagasa added.
The state weather bureau also warned the public that landslides are possible in highly susceptible areas.
