MANILA, Philippines—An investigation is now underway to find out why the plate number on the rented vehicle used by Chief Justice Corona when he testified at the Senate Tuesday appears to be the same as the license plate of a company car, police said.

The license plate in question was identified as ZEE 686, the license plate attached to the black Suburban allegedly rented out by Corona as his service vehicle to the Senate on Tuesday, Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina said.

A check with the Land Transportation Office showed that the license plate of the vehicle was really assigned to Gomez, said Espina.

Further investigation was being conducted and the owner of the Suburban has yet to be identified, he said.
