BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—A retired teacher died Wednesday in a fire reportedly triggered by a lighted candle.

Arson investigator Senior Fire Officer 2 Harry Fernandez on Friday said Florenda Rios Lastimoso, 74, of Barangay Alijis and a retired teacher of  Domingo Lacson National High School, was rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center where she died due to severe blood and fluid loss.

Firefighters and volunteers from the Amity and Chamber fire brigades put the fire out at about 9:35 p.m. and damage to properties placed at about P100,000.

Investigation showed that the fire originated at the room of Lastimoso who was reportedly using a candle to light her room since her  electricity had been cut off. Carla Gomez, Inquirer Visayas
