Nationwide earthquake drill set Thursday afternoon
MANILA, Philippines —The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) is urging the public and private sectors to join the nationwide earthquake drill on Thursday afternoon.
The Fourth Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) is scheduled at 2:00 p.m.
“This year, the drill will have a special focus on simulation exercises addressing not only earthquakes but also potential tsunami and volcanic eruption scenarios, given the presence of Mt. Hibok-Hibok in Camiguin,” the OCD said in a statement.
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro, Jr. underscored the importance of preparedness not only during typhoons but also when earthquakes strike.
“As a nation, we must acknowledge our vulnerability not only to typhoons but also to multi-hazard scenarios. Earthquakes, in particular, pose a unique risk as they can strike without any warning,” Teodoro said.
