WALANG PASOK: Bicol classes suspended as storm Man-Yi nears

WALANG PASOK Bicol local governments and schools order the suspension of classes as Tropical Storm Man-yi threatens to hit the region this weekend. Man-yi , which will be given the local name Pepito upon entering the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by either Thursday night or Friday morning (November 14 or 15, 2024), may develop into a typhoon before reaching landmass, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. LEGAZPI CITY — Bicol local governments and schools ordered the suspension of classes as Tropical Storm Man-yi threatens to hit the region this weekend.

In a memorandum on Wednesday, November 13, Governor Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte said classes at all levels in public and private schools would be suspended on Friday, November 15, to allow families to prepare and conduct preemptive evacuations from high-risk areas.

Villafuerte said it would also allow the Department of Education to prepare the school buildings and facilities for evacuation and safeguard the educational materials and equipment.

Meanwhile, the Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges in Nabua town ordered the suspension of office transactions and in-person classes, or “walang pasok,” on Thursday, November 14, and advised its faculty and students to shift to synchronous or asynchronous mode.

In an advisory, the school said it would ensure the safety and well-being of the students, especially those in boarding houses.

Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion likewise ordered the suspension of classes starting at 1 p.m. on Thursday to allow the public to prepare early, especially the schools that would be used as evacuation centers.

The Catanduanes Colleges in Virac town in Catanduanes also issued a suspension of classes beginning Thursday noon to give students enough time to travel home and take necessary precautions.
