MANILA, Philippines – Chief Justice Renato Corona returned to the Senate on Friday to resume his testimony at his impeachment trial.

Corona arrived at 1:20 p.m. on board an ambulance provided by The Medical City hospital where he was confined since Tuesday after a sudden drop in his blood sugar following his three-hour statement before the Senate, acting as an impeachment court.

The trial began at around 2:00 pm on Friday, the deadline given by the chamber for Corona to present his defense against charges that he misdeclared his statement of assets, liabilities and networth (SALN), before next week’s verdict.

FEATURED STORIES

Corona first appeared before the Senate last Tuesday but immediately left the hearing room after giving his opening statement, which angered Senate President and presiding officer Juan Ponce-Enrile.

Corona’s lead counsel, former Supreme Court Justice Serafin Cuevas, later informed the Senate that his client was suffering from hypoglycemia (low-blood sugar).

From the Senate, Corona was brought directly to the hospital.
