Marcos vows stronger defense with upgrades to PH Marine Corps

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reiterated the government’s commitment to building a “stronger and more comprehensive” defense posture.

This can be achieved by investing in modern infrastructure and upgrading facilities that would boost the operations of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC), the president said in his speech during the celebration of the PMC’s 74th anniversary on Thursday.

Marcos served as the guest of honor and keynote speaker at the event where he also witnessed the awarding of PMC units and personnel.

The PMC serves as the naval infantry force of the Philippine Navy. It supplies fire and combined arms support and carries out coastal defense and amphibious operations.

The president also acknowledged PMC’s dedication to protecting Filipinos, fostering peace and development, and upholding the nation’s sovereignty.
