Crime in Metro Manila down by 11.12% in October – NCRPO

MANILA, Philippines — According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the crime rate in Metro Manila has decreased by 11.12 percent since Maj. Gen. Sidney Hernia became the force’s chief.

In a statement on Tuesday, NCRPO reported that it logged 7,649 incidents of crimes from October 9 to November 4, down from 8,606 in the period prior.

Hernia took office as NCRPO Acting Director last October 9.

The capital region’s police force said it confiscated P79,714,805.40 worth of illegal substances and arrested 1,039 individuals in 703 operations in its anti-drug campaign during the said period.

Additionally, it seized P542,404.75 in cash and arrested 1,954 individuals in 792 anti-illegal gambling operations.

NCRPO added that it confiscated 160 firearms and apprehended 157 individuals in 155 operations against loose firearms.

The police force also arrested 539 of the most wanted persons and 708 others on the wanted list.

Moreover, Hernia touted the NCRPO’s digitization efforts, pointing to its Law Enforcement Reporting Information System and its Electronic Daily Personnel Accounting System.
