DSWD chief denies turning down referral requests for aid from OVP
MANILA, Philippines — Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian said they do not politicize helping people, as he addressed allegations that his agency turned down referral requests for aid from the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
In a statement on Tuesday, Gatchalian specifically pointed out that “they do not politicize helping people” and “the ones responsible for extending assistance are the licensed social workers, which means their licenses are at risk if they politicize helping those in need.”

The DSWD chief likewise stood firm that his office extended aid to anyone who asked them for help.
“Every day, even without a referral, when you go to the DSWD office, they help you. You don’t need a referral. If there is a referral, you will also be helped,” Gatchalian said.
